00:01:46: There were shots.

00:01:46: With the so-called correspondent Denein Washington.

00:01:50: That is something like the Federal Press ball with us with two thousand six hundred guests.

00:01:54: The US president was also on site, just like the First Lady.

00:01:57: By the way it's the first time that Donald Trump took part in the event.

00:02:01: Also with him were the vice-president, J.D.

00:02:04: Vance and other cabinet members.

00:02:06: Also live on site and got everything, Leonie Schäuble from Stern.

00:02:10: Leonie, nice to have you here for now!

00:02:12: And welcome at The Wildhouse!

00:02:14: Good morning from the late Washington.

00:02:18: How

00:02:19: did this situation come about?

00:02:21: What do we need

00:02:22: to imagine?

00:02:23: Yes, it was actually the first peaceful evening.

00:02:25: You have already said quite correctly that this was the first time Donald Trump was in place as president at the press dinner.

00:02:32: Everyone was actually looking forward to the speech of the President right?

00:02:36: The first floor was just served.

00:02:38: We also heard the national anthem and suddenly a lot of shots.

00:02:43: In the first moment, you couldn't really guess how close these shots are now.

00:02:47: But due to careful measures, of course everyone went directly into cover.

00:02:53: We were under the table and the people were hidden.

00:02:57: Some of them even tore down the tables so that a lot of the Secret Service ran through the hall in full motion all at once .

00:03:07: Of course they captured the vice president from the stage right away.

00:03:12: So it was a lot of chaos, lots and lots of turmoil.

00:03:15: No one could really guess what just happened here and whether the danger was still ongoing.

00:03:22: And then we drove for a few seconds, maybe even minutes under these tables until it became clear that there is no one else in the room anymore... ...and only later on did I get to know about this whole thing outside of this festival where an armed Yes, the armed movement-like shooter who definitely wanted to achieve this shot.

00:03:50: He sprinted there and you know now in between that he had a shotgun with him several knives really heavily armed And then it was actually stopped relatively quickly but from the Secret Service.

00:04:01: An officer was also shot at But luckily he is up too!

00:04:08: That's all those scenes which were played outside of the set from which we only heard the shots in the first

00:04:17: place.

00:04:17: And what did you hear through

00:04:21: your head when hearing these shots?

00:04:23: Yes, it was of course a shop moment.

00:04:24: I haven't heard shots like this in my life before either.

00:04:29: The American colleagues reacted more quickly and were the first to be under the table.

00:04:35: Of course they know these drills here already at school.

00:04:39: We don´t know that from Germany.

00:04:42: And that's why it was already relatively clear, never.

00:04:47: That these are really shots.

00:04:48: Donald Trump later at the press conference said in a joke he thought for the first moment maybe this would have been such a fallen-down scanner tablet or something like that.

00:04:59: But yes we all probably wished for the best for tonight.

00:05:02: It should come

00:05:04: differently.".

00:05:05: How did Donald Trump react?

00:05:06: I

00:05:06: didn't have a direct view of the stage, and it all went so fast that President Zieg in principle ducked.

00:05:14: You saw this on video recordings afterwards And then he was completely quickly out behind the stage from Secret Service and safely brought away.

00:05:24: In retrospect, the president himself gave him another press conference.

00:05:29: about two

00:05:30: hours later

00:05:31: He explained again that as he said at first not exactly knew what actually happened.

00:05:37: I was very happy that Secret Service police reacted so quickly.

00:05:42: And this cooperation of the authorities has been completely approved, where you can ask yourself directly how it could come to this at all?

00:05:52: That a well-guarded man in this case came close to the presidents and to the gathered capital press, the collected HOSU from media and politics.

00:06:06: How were the security measures normally?

00:06:09: Usually, it is always a safety control-like lock comparable to that at the airport.

00:06:14: Yes, it was the same this time.

00:06:15: The whole thing happened in Hilton, which is a large hotel in the middle of Washington.

00:06:20: Of course there were already meters before we all got checked at the hotel.

00:06:25: All guests who are inside the hotel had to show their entry card and then they went into that hotel just like an airport lock where you passed through such a safety device.

00:06:38: My bag was also thoroughly taken apart again and checked out for example .

00:06:42: I would also say that you know about other major events here.

00:06:47: And of course, security personnel were running around in the hall and Secret Service was of course overimposed because as I said all the leading government officials were at the start with this dinner.

00:06:59: In the end it then also said to the president at the press conference that they had best people who had the best possible safety on site.

00:07:11: And when

00:07:12: and how was it clear that the danger is over?

00:07:15: It

00:07:16: took a while.

00:07:17: There were relatively quick statements from the organizers of The White House Correspondents Dinner, where there had been such a first warning for the secret service, which had taken the brave perpetrators seriously.

00:07:43: Donald Trump later said at the press conference that he would have liked to continue this event.

00:07:48: But then the FBI and the administrative authorities made a whole line of calculations, because they also said that there is nothing more to do here today.

00:08:01: They are now just trying again to secure traces in all hotels And so we were sent home at some point.

00:08:10: the president has already announced via TrueSocial that he wants to hold a press conference.

00:08:17: That's why we saw how the American colleagues in Prague and in the evening were heated up at the White House, so as not to sit at the press conference on time again.

00:08:32: And then the President spoke first of all after this very rich evening about the press.

00:08:40: It just happened.

00:08:41: Do you realize what's going on?

00:08:43: Did it happen from a shock?

00:08:46: Is the shock still big, but also for your colleagues and colleagues

00:08:49: as well?

00:08:49: Yes!

00:08:50: The shock is definitely still huge because we always wonder if there would have been anything that could've happened when this brave fighter had somehow made it to this stage And I'm so familiar with these scenarios here.

00:09:08: Well, the two attempts had already been made on the presidents.

00:09:12: Last year there was a murder attack against Charlie Kirk and so much political violence on both sides which has happened here in recent months and years now.

00:09:28: President Donald Trump also emphasized this at the press conference that it actually was an evening where you wanted to come together as Democrats or Republicans in the hall, the collected capital press.

00:09:43: And it was actually an evening when the press freedom should have its big event and that a set of parts for the press to be celebrated.

00:09:53: Of course all this overshadows everything And above all, we have to ask questions first.

00:10:02: Who is this man?

00:10:03: What do you know about him and how he was able to get there as soon as possible?

00:10:06: How did it come in here?

00:10:07: What's the motive for that?

00:10:09: Everything will be done within the next few hours.

00:10:12: Surely everyone of us still has a lot to do with this.

00:10:14: You've mentioned

00:10:16: your motives.

00:10:16: Will he now discuss whether Donald Trump was his target or media representative?

00:10:22: Yes, Donald Trump thinks he should have been the target.

00:10:27: At least that's what he said at the press conference.

00:10:30: Ultimately it is speculated to this point because as I said before, the man is the perpetrator of which so far only knows that.

00:10:40: he is thirty-one years old and comes from California where he was supposed to be a teacher who lives in Gewahrsam.

00:10:46: He will now be examined on skin and hair interview and on Monday he will be introduced to the court here.

00:10:56: And then we'll find out pretty quickly what's

00:10:58: next.".

00:10:58: Leonie Schäuble

00:11:00: says, thank you very much for all of your current information!

00:11:04: Thank you so much for taking time like this after such an evening.

00:11:08: All the best!

00:11:09: Here are

00:11:09: a few more backgrounds with the evidence that the accident just happened.

00:11:16: But as we have heard from Leonie, one man was already arrested and he should be the only suspect after police charges.

00:11:23: The alleged perpetrator had been his first guest in the hotel after first sightings of him.

00:11:29: Donald Trump says he would like to murder someone.

00:11:32: As I said it used to be a lonely wolf who is called a single perpetrator according to the Secret Service.

00:11:37: He was in every room next to a metal detector.

00:11:41: In this case, the man was obviously overthrown by policemen and torn to ground.

00:11:46: According to police and FBI, the suspect shot with a shrewd flint at one of the secret services.

00:11:53: We talked about it.

00:11:55: He got hit but he's fine now.

00:11:56: He is probably still in the hospital.

00:11:58: Thank God for bringing him a bulletproof vest.

00:12:02: For the brave perpetrators, it should be a thirty-one year old man.

00:12:09: Donald Trump speaks from a sick person from California, he should also have had a hand gun and several knives.

00:12:17: So far the first information,

00:12:30: the

00:12:34: first

00:12:35: impressions and backgrounds to the shots in Washington.
